2017 Lucidity Festival: Eudaimonia

Epi-genetics (above-genetics) is the study of changes that occur to an organism resulting from modifications to gene expression, without altering the actual genetic code. Think of it as a bunch of switches on the gene that can be each turned ‘on’ or ‘off’. The pattern of how these switches are turned on or off conveys instructions to how and where the gene is activated. Life’s circumstances, such as what we eat, stresses, where we live, who we interact with, when and how long we sleep, how we exercise, etc., all influence the switches on/off pattern, thereby effecting gene regulation. So why is this important to you? Well, to start with, it’s no longer entirely true to say, I am “blank” because it’s in my genes.
